Sustainability.
MediaCityUK is a global leader for green communities.
We are proud to be the first scheme in the world to become a BREEAM approved sustainable community, by incorporating world leading sustainability into the design.
During Phase One of MediaCityUK we incorporated many features to meet the BREEAM criteria, in particular using our greatest asset - water from the Manchester Ship Canal - to power, heat and cool the buildings across our 36-acre site.
Several of our buildings including the Holiday Inn and The Studios benefit from the use of a combined heat and power plant energy system known as Tri-Gen, which has many benefits including reducing C02 emissions.
Our tri-generation power plant is helping to minimise C02 emissions by centralising heating and cooling equipment. It utilises water from the Manchester Ship Canal, before returning it cleaner than before.
During construction we used the ship canal to transport materials, reducing the amount of emission heavy motorway journeys by lorry.
Now the city is coming to life we actively encourage residents, occupiers and visitors travelling to MediaCityUK to use public transport, (including the new tram service) wherever possible. We’ve also installed 300 cycle bays at points across the site.
